For Those With a Taste for the Finer Things in Life

This April, The Gallery at Taj Cape Town is hosting the art of David Kuijers, wine from the Longridge Wine Estate and a unique menu presented by Chef Kurt de Wet. What makes the experience so magical is that diners have the opportunity to indulge in a menu which is created solely for this occasion, with accompanying wines while watched over by whimsical art pieces.

A Chef’s Table Menu Crafted by Kurt de Wet

The chef’s menu is a creation produced through the inspiration drawn from the chosen wines and complemented by the accompanying artwork. This month the fusion menu has been crafted by experienced Taj Cape Town sous chef, Kurt De Wet. To further enhance the atmosphere, diners are served their meal in The Gallery, a private dining room – making this an unforgettable experience.

Diners can look forward to unique combinations on the menu:

Roasted sweet potato and white chocolate soup, paired with the 2014 Longridge Chenin Blanc.

Crispy sole fish with vanilla parsnip smear, braised lemon, charred lemon gel and sesame foam, paired with the 2015 Longridge Organic Chardonnay.

Duck breast with grated egg yolk, raisin mustard and lentil miscela, cumin carrot purée, white asparagus and fermented cherry syrup, paired with the 2014 Longridge Merlot.

Cinnamon and mango sorbet.

Seared beef fillet with braised oxtail, gnocchi ring, truffle oil, parmesan crisp and broccoli extract paired with the 2014 Longridge Cabernet Sauvignon.

Fruit platter comprised of compressed watermelon, pineapple gelée, pickled berries, kiwi gremolata, melon ball and poached peaches, paired with the 2016 Longridge The Emily

Wine by Longridge Wine Estate

On the slopes of the Helderberg mountain range in Stellenbosch rests one of South Africa’s world-class wine estates, the Longridge Estate. The 175-year-old, 50-hectare farm which lies only 5km from the ocean, is subject to a climate similar to that of the Mediterranean. Their range of organic wines is grown to be complemented by both the climate and soil. Their range includes Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage.

Play Nicely: The Art of David Kuijers

Initially majoring in illustration at Cape Technicon, David Kuijers made his mark as a top student on graduating. Following his very first exhibition, he sold out and retired as a graphic designer to become a fulltime artist. Inspired by the city of Cape Town, animals both domestic and wild, colour and condiments (think All Gold, Mrs Balls and Kikkoman), his bold use of colour and unapologetic strokes communicate more than his whimsical musings, they speak to the heart of the Capetonian. His latest exhibition, Play Nicely, is a kind reminder to lighten up.
