Monday Night Magic at the Cape Town Club

There’s a certain kind of magic in the Mother City – and now even more so. Located in the city centre, and held each Monday, The Cape Town Magic Club hosts ‘Monday Night Magic’ until the 31st of July 2017. With three successful seasons already under its belt, the fourth season will once again keep audiences enthralled with tricks, sleight of hand and illusion, all woven together with a little theatrical drama.

Take a Seat in the Front Row

Guests can choose from the tamer family oriented 7 pm show or the adult only 9 pm late show. The intimate venue accommodates up to 50 people with tickets available from R150, or R200 for golden circle if you would like to get up close and personal. Refreshments are available at the theatre’s private bar before and after the show. Fine wine, malts and beer are available from 6:15 pm and 10:30 pm.

The Talent

The Monday Night Magic show has one staple – the late show features comical burlesque performer Diva Disastar. Aside from the burlesque performance, each night the line-up varies, giving both up-and-coming magicians the opportunity to perform in front of an audience and hone their craft alongside their renowned local and international predecessors. Show-goers can expect to bask in the talent of magicians such as Russell Fox, Greg Gelb, Stuart Lightbody, Larry Soffer, Bryan Miles, Alan Marriot and host Marcel Oudejans.

Magical Performances in a Magical Venue

Located on 18 Queen Victoria Street, the Cape Town Club is the historic centre of Cape Town. Dating back to 1898, the club is flanked by the Company’s Garden on one side and the Cape High Court on the other side. The building itself was designed by Sir Herbert Baker and the interior remains clad in dark wood, filled with leather furniture and finished with chandeliers and pressed ceilings. The Cape Town Club is truly a throw-back to simpler times. Lending its basement to the Cape Town Magic Club, the show takes place behind a nifty bookcase-come-secret-door. In true Victorian style, the secret door leads guests down a wooden staircase into a mysterious and intimate setting.

With Taj Cape Town a mere two-minute walk from the Cape Town Club, where better to indulge in after-show drinks? The Twankey Bar at the Taj offers impeccably magical cocktails. The cocktail menu is inspired by the inner workings of a true taste-magician – the talented and award-winning Mixologist, AJ Snetler.
